Artists are Renters Too!

Betty Marin

Common Field Session
Organized by Jia Gu/ Materials and Applications

Come learn your rights as a renter. As artists, we are also community members responsible to our neighbors and the broader city. What steps can we take to fight displacement and gentrification in our city? By learning our rights and sharing that information with others. In this participatory workshop, we will share challenges as renters, gain resources, and learn about how to get involved with the LA Tenants Union.

Founded in 2015, LA Tenants Union is a diverse, tenant-led movement fighting for the human right to housing for all. We demand safe, affordable housing and universal rent control. We organize against landlord harassment, mass evictions, and displacement. We mobilize for the repeal of the Ellis Act and Costa-Hawkins Act. Our mission is to strengthen tenants’ political power through education, advocacy, and direct action.
