Regional Support Fund

Common Field’s 2022 Regional Support Fund provides financial support to local and regional participants for in-person attendance at the WHAT NOW? gathering from Sep 30 – Oct 2, 2022 in Seattle, WA. These funds ensure low-barrier access to the event for local and regional attendees by providing free registration for all applicants and advanced funds of up to $200 to offset other costs associated with participation. This event will offer self-selecting sliding scale ticketing prices, including a no-cost option for all. We encourage attendees who may need additional support beyond no-cost ticketing to apply.

Please note: Common Field is focusing support funds for this hybrid event in Seattle on local and regional participants who can attend in person. As such, this Support Fund is for local and regional attendees only those who live in or near Seattle, King County, and surrounding areas accessible by car or public transit. The gathering will have online components that our national community can engage with, as well. Our funds are focused on supporting Seattle and its regional community to gather in person to meet and share possibilities for their communities together.

For the 2022 Regional Support Fund, applicants can choose their requested amount from $50 up to $200 in the application. All applicants to this fund will also receive free registration to the event, regardless of fund request or award. Our goal with this support fund is to provide the most robust framework of support for local and regional attendees. Those who receive funds will not be required to report on how they were used.

Eligibility and Criteria for Fund Distribution

The Regional Support Fund is meant only for local and regional attendees who are able to attend in-person events at Washington Hall in Seattle. Local and regional attendees are defined as those who fall within driving distance of Seattle, whether by car or public transport. The Seattle gathering will be a hybrid event and though this year’s fund cannot support national attendees for in-person participation, we will be offering online events and experiences to engage our national community during the event and will provide sliding-scale ticketing options for all to keep the barrier to participation as low as possible.

Criteria for fund distribution include:

  • Eligibility: Applicant is a local or regional attendee within driving distance.

  • Intention to Participate: Applicant intends to attend for at least one day of the gathering.

  • Need: Those who identify as needing additional support to take part in the gathering, and to participate fully.

What can I use this fund for?

As a fund to support local and regional participants, applicants are welcome to use these funds to support their full participation in one or more days of the event in any way they need. Use of funds do not need to be reported for those receiving support. Funds can be used for:

  • Gas, charging, or ground transportation costs

  • Childcare or family care

  • Recovery of lost wages for attendance

  • Food or other incidentals related to traveling to Seattle

  • Other expenses related to your participation that provide you with the support you need to be present

This fund is not meant to cover air travel or overnight accommodations in Seattle.

Selection Process

Regional Support Fund grantees will be distributed through two channels: a Request for Funds application process open now through Monday, Aug 8, 2022, and through invitation.

Invited recipients for fund support will be selected by partners and stakeholders in Seattle to support those who may not otherwise know of this event, and whose participation will be particularly beneficial both to their practice and the gathering.

We aim to fund as many applicants as possible and cannot guarantee that the full amount of any request will be granted to those who are offered funding. If the total amount requested by applicants exceeds the amount available in the fund, Seattle organizing partners will meet to determine how to best distribute funds to support the most people possible.

Restrictions and Considerations

As a locally- and regionally-focused fund, this fund cannot cover expenses related to air travel or overnight accommodations in Seattle to attend.

If planning to travel with a group, you may apply together or individually. If your projected expenses extend beyond $200 collectively, we urge you to apply individually.

We cannot guarantee that the full amount of requested support will be awarded to every applicant, or that all requests for funds will be granted.
