Hours: 20 hours/week leading up to program with overtime in advance and during the Convening
Rate: $20/hour
Reports to: Convening Program Director
Location: This position is remote and does not require travel.

Position Summary:

Common Field’s Convening Technology Producer serves as the primary digital producer for the 2021 Online Convening project. This individual – reporting to the Convening Program Director – provides integrated tech support for the virtual gathering, overseeing multiple online platforms while ensuring a navigable and accessible user experience for all stakeholders.

The Common Field Convening is an itinerant gathering that brings together organizers nationwide to share resources, knowledge, and methods for artist-led, -run, and -centered projects, spaces, and practices since 2015. In 2020, the Convening transitioned to an online program, and will continue to be online in the 2021 iteration.

Roles & Responsibilities

Digital Infrastructure Management

  • Research and recommend online assembly platforms that best meet constellation of Convening needs and serve as primary point-of-contact with digital service providers

  • Develop and implement robust accessibility and safety protocols for attendees

  • Create comprehensive trainings and technology user guides that include best practices and relevant access points for various stakeholders

  • Coordinate integration of registration pathways and Convening visual identity in virtual space with the Communications & Operations Manager and Registration & Attendee Coordinator

Technological Production

  • Manage run-of-show for all Convening programs with consistency and care

  • Prepare for potential pitfalls and technical challenges for multiple concurrent sessions

  • Serve as primary liaison for digital production staff, including session pilots, co-PAs, and in coordination with captioners, ASL interpreters, etc.

Archival Coordination

  • Facilitate archival recordings and material transfer of session programs where applicable

  • Liaise file management alongside video producer and Communications & Operations Manager


  • Previous experience working with online conferences, ideally within the arts and culture sector

  • Previous experience and strong working knowledge of virtual platforms and technologies

  • Significant capacity for organizing logistics, anticipating challenges, and tracking detailed information

  • Thoughtful demeanor with strong communication skills

Job Specifications

  • Contractor must be able to provide their own computer and a reliable internet connection

  • Common Field has a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Policy

Job Schedule

Weekly hours throughout the planning process will be 20hrs/week. In the weeks leading up to the Convening in October and throughout the Convening in early November, additional hours will be required, at times beyond 40hrs/week. These overtime hours (beyond 40hrs/week) will be billed at time and a half rate.
