Development & Operations Manager

Transformer seeks an energetic, detail-oriented individual with a growth mindset to join our ambitious, savvy arts management team. Reporting directly to the Founding Executive & Artistic Director, the Development & Operations Manager works to broaden the organizations base of support while overseeing the execution of programs and day to-day operations. The role is essential and influential in advancing our mission to support emerging artists and emergent expression in the visual arts.

Position Description:

Building on our established family of supporters, in tandem with our programming and partnership achievements in support of emerging artists and new & best practices in contemporary visual art, the Development & Operations Manager works with Transformer’s Executive & Artistic Director and Board to expand our capacity in individual and major gift campaigns, corporate and foundation relations, and development of strategic alliances and sponsorship programs that will support Transformer goals in exhibitions, educational programming, and commissioning of new artworks. Additionally, the Development & Operations Manager oversees daily responsibilities to manage space maintenance, bill pay, financial management, community outreach, assisting with the engagement and cultivation of Transformer’s diverse audiences.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills Requirements – A successful candidate will have:

• 3-5 years experience working within a non-profit arts organization

• Demonstrated success in non-profit fundraising, establishing and cultivating relationships among various stakeholders including artists, volunteers, board, corporate executives, institutional representatives, and donors

• Exceptional face-to-face, phone, and written communication skills, including the ability to compellingly articulate Transformer’s mission to a variety of different audiences

• Friendly, engaging, and collaborative demeanor; impeccable customer service & strong attention to detail • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on developing mission-driven initiatives • Excellent time management skills and effective project management skills to map out and follow through

on clear action plans, meet established goals and deadlines, and work on multiple projects simultaneously • Ability to prioritize and execute in a fast-paced work environment

• Proficiency with software applications including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite • Experience/familiarity with HTML, web editing and design, Squarespace, WordPress, and Constant Contact • Motivated self-starter who values learning, with ability to pro-actively incorporate new skills as needed • Experience managing other employees and volunteers

• Knowledge of and interest in DC, national and international contemporary arts landscape • Understanding of and commitment to the mission and work of Transformer

• Availability to work some evenings and weekends

Key Responsibilities:

The Development & Operations Manager position requires a detailed oriented individual who will work closely with the Executive & Artistic Director to:

• Manage and track grants calendar to ensure deadlines and outcomes are met

• Manage all details of the grants process, including: research, write, submit, and manage high-quality persuasive proposals; tracking all reports and codes; ensuring timely & engaging reports are submitted to grant-makers; and other grant details

• Identify and research new funding opportunities

• Coordinate grant activities in collaboration with all staff

• Cultivate relationships with donors, foundations and sponsors, keeping them connected with impact of gifts • Develop & execute cultivation events and initiatives, and community outreach events and programs, for current and prospective donors and audience

• Manage cultivation and securing of all individual, restaurant, and corporate giving for all fundraising events and initiatives, including Transformer’s Auction – our most significant fundraising event

• Support development and execution of Transformer’s Heartbreakers Ball and Collector’s View series • Oversee the daily management and maintenance of the P Street exhibition space

• Manage and ensure the integrity of day-to-day financial operations and transactions • Manage donor database information, produce acknowledgement letters and track gift recognition for donors • Support Board and volunteer fundraising activities

Salary and benefits: Starting salary range of $50,000 - $60,000 annually commensurate with experience. Benefits include: health insurance reimbursement, flexible scheduling, generous paid vacation time, sick leave, and federal holidays. Advancement opportunities.
