PROGRAM ASSISTANT INTERN

Transformer seeks a Program Assistant Intern to assist our robust exhibition series and educational programming schedule. Applicants should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, availability to work occasional weekend and evening events, and have great attention to detail.

Transformer is an artist-centered visual arts non-profit based in Washington, DC. Our mission is to connect, elevate, and serve a diversity of emerging artists and arts leaders. We develop innovative, multi-faceted exhibition and program platforms, both independently and through global partnerships, to present artists’ evolving ideas and work, advance new and best visual arts practices, and engage audiences with emerging contemporary art. Position Description:

The Program Assistant Intern works under the supervision of Transformer’s Exhibitions & Programs Coordinator, and will be responsible for the following: provide assistance in programs and events, maintain and update collections database, and general exhibition and organizational administrative tasks. The Program Assistant Intern will assist with programs and activities that directly engage emerging visual artists and audiences, and advance Transformer’s mission.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills Requirements – A successful candidate will have:

● Excellent communication skills, both in writing and in person

● Strong organizational skills and attentive to details

● Experience assisting in exhibition programs and events

● Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and video editing

● Social Media savvy

● Experience in Wordpress, Squarespace and HTML a plus

● Ability to work independently and successfully manage multiple projects with competing deadlines

● Knowledge of and interest in DC, national, and international contemporary arts landscape

● Availability to work some evenings and weekends

Key Responsibilities:

● Provide admin support to the Exhibitions & Programs Coordinator in the development and implementation of all programs

● Provide physical support in attending all programs, and assisting in the execution of these programs

● Assist in the documentation of programs and audience attendance with digital photos and videos where appropriate

● Review, track, and audit artworks on file from each FlatFile program artists digital and physical portfolio

● Assist in the implementation and presentation of programs, providing: documentation, attendance coordination, and admin support

● Support creation and oversight of event invites, mailing lists, guest lists, and community engagement

● Assist in supporting exhibition install, de-install, artist coordination, and audience engagement

● Organize and maintain hard copy and computer archives of all exhibitions and programming materials

Compensation: Transformer is able to provide monthly stipend to support our Program Assistant Intern. To be determined based on time commitment and length of internship. Opportunity for Advancement.
