Land Art and Temporality

In celebration of the launch of Franconia Sculpture Park’s 4Ground: Midwest Land Art Biennial, Franconia is focusing 2022 curatorial initiatives and public programs on site-specific work that raises awareness of important land and water issues while celebrating the art and landscapes of the rural Midwest. In response to the Eurocentric art historical notion of land art rooted in man moving and controlling the earth, Franconia will be supporting work created with a feminist, indigenous perspective, drawing on the more than 10,000 year history of land art created by native peoples in the Upper Midwest.

For our 26th residency year, Franconia Sculpture Park is encouraging applicants with an interest in work rooted in the intersection of art and ecology, including but not limited to: performance; sound art; public interventions; site-specific and ephemeral installation; the rural and natural landscape; earthworks; collaborative works with nature; indigenous history and storytelling; and land and water rights.
