Resident Arts

Columbia, MO

Mission

Resident Arts is an artist-run nonprofit which cultivates aspiring and emerging artists, and engages supporters of the arts to strengthen Mid-MO’s community.  Our professional development and skill-building programs empower and educate to help create and sustain fulfilling careers in the arts.

History

Resident Arts was founded in July 2014 and received it’s 501 (c) 3 status as a tax exempt nonprofit in May 2015. But long before 2014, Resident Arts was being conceived by founder and director, Madeleine LeMieux. LeMieux first had a taste of organizing artists and helping them realize their professional goals in 2004. From that point forward she knew that her life’s work would be dedicated to doing just that.

Since the beginning of 2015 Resident Arts has been running programming to help young, emerging, and professional artists build careers right here in Mid-Missouri. Our programs achieve that goal by: providing mentoring and art-making opportunities for teens in our After-school Teen Artist Residency; offering a unique Emerging Artist Residency for emerging artists that aids the artist in the creation of a large-scale work or body of small works and provides a stipend and materials, over the course of three months; offering workshops as part of our Professional Development Workshop Series that are designed to help artists solve practical problems relating to running their arts practice.
