Old Furnace Artist Residency

New Market, VA, VA

The Old Furnace Artist Residency is an ongoing social sculpture initiated in 2013 by Jon Henry from his guest room. O.F.A.R. seeks to expose/engage artists to/with (rural) communities. It focuses on furthering the entanglements between art and politics.

The residency is located in New Market [formerly in Harrisonburg], Virginia. It is open to all forms of artistry: sculpture, painting, video, sound, conceptual, poetry, fiction writers, critical theorists etc. Special attention is given to practices which are focused on social justice and social engagement. Emerging artists are especially encouraged to apply.

There are no costs for participating artists but they will need to provide their own transit to Harrisonburg.

OFAR helps organize local, regional, and national culture work, actions, gatherings, conversations, and publishes a quarterly zine: SLAG MAG.
