Curatorial Research Bureau

San Francisco, CA

A bookshop, a learning site, an exhibition and public program, Curatorial Research Bureau at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco unites education and consumerism inside a contemporary arts institution, prioritizing context—of art, ideas, people, places, and things—as an active ingredient in the practice of curatorial research.

CRB is administered by California College of the Arts Graduate Program in Curatorial Practice in partnership with YBCA and Bureau for Open Culture, a curatorial initiative that forges intersections among art, design, education, and consumer culture while pushing against the traditional ways in which institutions engage audiences.

CRB integrates CCA graduate students into YBCA’s institutional infrastructure, where they may bear witness to and participate in its programmatic functions as an essential part of their education. CRB is the site of focused exhibitions, academic seminars, visiting-artist projects, and public talks.
