Emily Squires

Portland, OR

Emily Squires is an educator, youth organizer, and artist who works as a facilitator for the Center for Equity & Inclusion in Portland. In her previous role as the Education & Engagement Specialist with the Sexual & Gender Minority Youth Resource Center (SMYRC), she facilitated gender & sexuality equity workshops, primarily working with teachers in schools. Parallel to her work with adults on making spaces safer and more inclusive for young people experiencing marginalization through multiple identities, Emily works with youth organizers to create the Oregon Queer Youth Summit, an annual day-long social justice gathering led by and for young people.  Alongside her experiences in community organizing, youth justice, and health education, Squires is also trained as a printmaker and uses art-making as an organizing and facilitation tool for community building. Emily spends time reading sci-fi, baking rye bread, walking her dog, Moondog, and talking to her partner and baby about education, politics, and what's for dinner.
