Indigo Arts Alliance

Portland, ME

Indigo Arts Alliance’s purpose is to build global connections by bringing together artists from diverse backgrounds of the African Diaspora to engage in their creative process with an opportunity to serve as both mentors and mentees. An integral aspect of the Indigo vision: to provide Maine based artists of African descent access to a broader range of practicing Black artists and other underrepresented artist of color from around the world.

The core imperative of the IAA Artists residency program is to establish a robust and dynamic community through creative work and intellectual engagement. In our inaugural year, we will host one to two artists at a time, but will consider collectives as IAA develops the program over the next few years. The length of an artist’s residency is flexible and we do our absolute best to accommodate the schedules of the individual applicants. The term of the residency can be intermittent, with short visits throughout the calendar year or a single prolonged stay, ranging from one to two months. IAA will provide living space and a stipend that supports transportation to and from Portland.
