Carissa Burkett

Portland, OR

After working as Program Manager at Project Grow, an art studio, gallery and urban farm in Portland, Oregon that supported adults with developmental disabilities for 3 years Carissa Burkett co-founded Public Annex to re-think the modes of integration and accessibility within the art community (and beyond) among people with ID/DD.

Burkett is a sculptor and classically trained vocalist, but her primary focus as of late has been in creative management, organizing and curating as the Arts and Public Programming Director at The Chehalem Cultural Center in Newberg OR. Empathic and collaborative team work, informational organization and a mission towards justice and personal fulfillment is central to all that she does. She received her MFA in visual art from Vermont College of Fine Art in 2014 and her BA in studio art with a focus in sculptural practices at Azusa Pacific University in 2008.
