Racing Magpie

Rapid City, SD

At Racing Magpie, we center the Lakota practice of being a good relative in everything that we do and focus our work on elevating and amplifying the work that artists and culture bearers are doing already in our community. From our Native gallery to affordable art studios to flexible rental space for community groups and artist-centered programs, our relatives are our first priorities at all times.

Our programming has included traveling exhibitions like Responsibilities and Obligations: Understanding Mitákuye Oyásʼiŋ and Kite’s Listener installation and performance art. COVID-19 responsive virtual programming includes Wellness Workshops, two rounds of Virtual Residencies, and the first season of Winter Camp. We also partnered with the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, North Dakota, and Springboard for the Arts in Saint Paul, MN, to produce the revitalization of the Creative Community Leadership Institute.

We are located in Rapid City, South Dakota, and work throughout the region and beyond.
