Vashon Artist Residency

Vashon Island, WA

The Vashon Artist Residency offers artists space and time to create, ponder, imagine and live in a community of artists on spectacular Vashon Island in the midst of Puget Sound/the Salish Sea. The residency is located on the beach of Quartermaster Harbor in a four bedroom house with 3 artist studios and 1 writer’s studio (located in a bedroom suite). The Vashon Artist Residency will serve artists in the disciplines of visual art, music composition, writing, theater, dance and interdisciplinary work from around the world. Founder and visual artist Cathy Sarkowsky holds a deep desire to share this special place by establishing a small artist residency, providing artists space to create and develop new work, to explore new practices and relationships, and to rest and recharge their physical, spiritual, and creative energy.

We offer month-long, self-directed residencies to emerging and established artists, writers, artisans, scholars, musicians and performing artists. We are committed to offering these opportunities to a diverse group of working artists, with the hope that a variety of styles and backgrounds participating in the residency will stimulate growth and exploration in each artist’s respective field. Any work an artist makes here will be theirs, and we have no preconceived expectations regarding what an artist does or doesn’t do upon their completion of the residency. The Residency provides lodging and work space on a sliding scale fee structure, to three residents each month. A fourth artist resident lives on site and serves as the Residency Director.

The residency will begin accepting applicants July 8, 2021
