Space One Eleven

Birmingham, AL

Founded in 1986 to support visual artists, Space One Eleven is one of the few places in Birmingham where a diverse citizenry gathers to celebrate and respond to contemporary art and artists who address social and cultural issues; including the roles that the Deep South plays in matters such as tolerance and equality.

Space One Eleven showcases artists of local, regional, and national prominence, many of whom are preserving cultural history through an exploration of Birmingham’s civil rights heritage. Space One Eleven also provides exhibition opportunities for area emerging artists.

With a commitment to excellence, experimentation, and cultural expression, Space One Eleven’s curatorial team invites artists and curators to organize innovative projects that make art accessible to a broad community.  Space One Eleven’s programs include exhibitions, forums for public discussions, storefront windows installations, community collaborations, and year-round arts education for children, youth, and older adults.
