Field News June 2018

Join Common Field for a summer series of conversations to explore ideas, opportunities, and challenges of arts organizing in Philadelphia.

Initiated by Common Field to engage with the core concerns of the local arts landscape through discussion and discovery, the series has been developed through partnership with local arts organizations Asian Arts Initiative, Philadelphia Contemporary, Taller Puertorriqueño, and Ulises. Through these gatherings, Common Field aims to articulate and activate a local network of arts organizers that will inform both the themes and programs for the Common Field 2019 Convening in Philadelphia, and the goals for local arts organizing ahead.

We are excited to introduce to you our newly forming Convening team. Together, with our network of members and partners, Common Field will collaborate to create and support the ideas and activities of the network and build on the success of Common Field’s LA 2017 Convening and growing set of resources.

Crystal Baxley (Convening Program Director) is an artist, organizer, and writer whose practice centers conversation and collaboration. Since 2010 she has worked as an organizer on the Open Engagement conference and as the Studio Manager for J & C Arts. She also has a background in development and writes grants for individual artists and arts non-profits.

E. Maude Haak-Frendscho (Convening Program Manager) is a Philadelphia-based arts organizer who programs experimental new works that foreground process and experience, rooted in interests in social and spatial practices. She has collaborated with artists through independent projects and non-profit programming for over a decade.

Amanda Choo Quan is moving on from her Communications and Membership Manager staff position, but we are thrilled she’ll continue to collaborate with Common Field as a guest writer and organizer on select projects.
