Scholarships + Updates for LA Convening

JULY 31, 2017

Hello everyone!

We hope you’re excited about our 2017 Los Angeles Convening, taking place from November 2-5. This is the first year the Convening will be held on the West Coast, in a city in which Common Field has decided to set down its roots.

LA has provided especially fertile ground for the rapid expansion of our artist organization community. It’s an ideal time, we believe, to connect the interests, themes and issues of the national Common Field membership with the contexts and conditions specific to this sprawling, rousing, complex city.

Deadline: Friday, September 1, 2017

We want, more than ever, to ensure that our members are able attend no matter the circumstances. We are proud to offer 25 national scholarships to support emerging organizers to attend the Convening. Each is valued at $1,000 and includes a $125 members level ticket, plus $875 for travel and accommodations. Applications are due Friday, September 1, 2017, and are available here. Support for the Convening Scholarship Program is generously provided by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

We’re also amazed by the response we received to our first ever Convening Open Call for proposals. We received 67 applications total from 21 states! Thank you so, so much for submitting, sharing, and collaborating! We’re already astounded by the ideas we’ve seen!

We’ve incorporated your feedback into programming that aims to be even more comprehensive, diverse, and engaging. Tickets will be available in early September. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on! Stay tuned.

To plan our Convening, Common Field is working with partners across Los Angeles and organizations representing a range of models, scales, communities and approaches. Lead Los Angeles Convening Partners include the Center for Land Use Interpretation, Human Resources, Materials + Applications, and Women’s Center for Creative Work. The current extended network of affiliate partners includes 18th Street Art Center, Clockshop, Contemptorary, Eastside International, Fathomers, Los Angeles Contemporary Archive (LACA), Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE), Machine Project, Side Street Projects, The Underground Museum, The Velaslavasay Panorama, and X-tra Contemporary Art Quarterly. National programmatic vision and sessions are also organized by Common Field’s Council.

See you soon!
