New Profile FAQs

Need some help starting a new profile on Common Field 2.0? You’ve come to the right place.

1. I had a profile on Common Field’s old website. Why do I need to start a new profile?

Our brand new website has a new back-end and payment processing system—all changes we made to ensure a smoother experience navigating the site and managing your account. Updating our website, unfortunately, meant that all profiles needed to be started from scratch. As Common Field is a non-profit run by a small (yet dedicated!) staff, we’re calling on you to start a new profile for your organization to take advantage of our site’s new and improved resources. But, for your time, we’re adding another year free onto your existing membership. Note that your total months of membership begin as soon as you register on the new site. So, if you had three months' paid membership remaining, your 3 months + 12 free months will be valid from the date you register.

2. What’s new about the new website?

We’re glad you asked! Apart from its snazzy new look, Common Field 2.0 offers new, members-only forums, which you can use to share resources and conversation with the breadth of our network. Additionally, our network map, which was admittedly a little glitchy, is more interactive, searchable, and seamlessly user-friendly. So, too, are our listings, which allow you to more easily list (for free!) and search for opportunities, announcements, jobs, and services in our field.

3. I have a keycode. Why do I need to input my credit card information?

Our new system requires you to have credit card information on file in order to start an account. You will only be charged when your free membership is over and your subscription is set to renew. You will also receive two notifications before your card is billed 30 and 15 days prior. If you’d like to opt out of a paid subscription once your free membership has ended, you can do so by logging into your account at commonfield.org/login. You’ll receive a receipt once your card is billed.

4. If I’ve already paid for a Common Field membership, will this be like starting from scratch? Will the months I’ve paid for be honored?

Yes! You should have received an e-mail with a code that is specific to the date you signed up. This code will enable you to receive a free year added to your remaining months of membership (the free year is simply for your time and effort!). If you have not receieved your code, please e-mail us at hello [at] commonfield.org. Note that your total months of membership begin as soon as you register on the new site. So, if you had three months' paid membership remaining, your 3 months + 12 free months will be valid from the date you register.

5. How do I know whether I should sign up as an organizer or an organization?

Good question! If you are associated with, run, or work for an organization within the field—so, unless you are an independent organizer—we recommend that you first start a profile for this organization. You can only start one profile per subscription—so, note that if you’d like to list yourself as an organizer, you will be required to make an additional payment.

6. Can I set up multiple profiles for various members of the same organization?

Yes, you can, but they would need to be listed as independent organizers, and each profile would require a different subscription.

7. I'm not seeing my organization/myself listed on the Common Field Network Map. What should I do?

If you’ve completed the entire process of starting a new account—including logging into the site and filling out your new profile—and you still don’t see yourself or your organization on the new network map, please contact us at hello [at] commonfield.org.
