Philly Field Conversation with Ulises

Join Common Field for a summer series of conversations to explore ideas, opportunities, and challenges of arts organizing in Philadelphia. The first event in the series has been organized in partnership with Ulises.

Monday, June 11, 2018, 6:30 - 8:30PM
Ulises | facilitated by Ulises co-founders with Common Field staff
Location: 31 E Columbia Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19125

Ulises co-founders invite discussion on a constellation of issues close to self organized spaces and arts initiatives: burnout, viability, and sustainability. Arts workers across the field, working at a range of scales, and perhaps with and for multiple organizations, are invited to take part in this round-table session, which touches on labor, institutions, and the values that drive self organization. This event is designed to be productive and goal-oriented, generating ideas and strategies that we can activate in our work as arts organizers. Refreshments and snacks provided.

Philly Field Conversations is a series of collaboratively organized events facilitated by local arts leaders who prompt dialogue on an issue or range of topics central to Philadelphia arts organizing. Common Field initiated the series to engage with the core concerns of the local arts landscape through discussion and discovery and will utilize what’s learned in the process toward program and partner development for its 2019 Convening in Philadelphia.

The Common Field 2019 Convening, taking place from April 25 - 28, 2019, is a national gathering of independent arts organizations that serves as a platform to bring visibility to the expansive network of artists’ organizations in Philadelphia and nationally, as well as a context for conversations that have field-wide relevance.

ABOUT Ulises

Ulises is a bookshop and curatorial platform dedicated to artists’ books and independent art publications. Each curatorial season invites contributors to present publications, workshops, lectures, artworks, and collaborations in response to a given theme.
